Rotterdam ATP tennis tournament
BAD luck for Gael Monfils, one more final lost
Martin Klizan ended Sunday at the golf Gael Monfils in Rotterdam, beaten in the final 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, for the 18th time on the circuit. The French in particular has suffered a serious black hole in the middle of the second inning.
There are figures that hurt. Starting with 8 as the number of games consecutively enrolled by Martin Klizan from the middle of the second set when the Slovak and Gael Monfils were tied, 3-3. A 5-0 for the 43rd global player in the last inning, the Rotterdam tournament held out his arms to Klizan, despite losing his service at the time to impose "The Monf" severe 6-0. The French will fail to confirm this break and let the trophy to his opponent, handed the hands of Richard Krajicek, tournament director of his hometown.
Winner 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-1, Martin Klizan maintains his 100% success rate with this fourth title won on Sunday played four finals. Instead, Gael Monfils, the only confrontation with Klizan dated back to 2007 (victory in Washington), failed for the 18th time on the 23 finals he has played since 2005. Specifically, it failed on Sunday in her fifth final of a 500 tournament in as many attempts.
This performance, still reflecting a strong sense of mess for someone who had shown a solid tennis and without deviation, must not overwhelm the 18th player in the world. It has often been said in the past, the mind is not the strong point of tennis when traffic comes, among others, the money-time. Since 1991, the French found themselves 24 times in a final ATP 500 for eight victories, the last being in 2011. It was Gilles Simon in Hamburg against Nicolas Almagro.
